Badd Blood: In Your House was presented by PlayStation, which took place on October 5, 1997 at the Kiel Center in St. Louis, Missouri. On the afternoon of the event, Brian Pillman, who was scheduled to face Dude Love on the show, was found dead in his hotel room. The announcement was made to fans during the half-hour "pregame show" prior to the pay-per-view being broadcast. The event was also notable for the debut of The Undertaker's brother Kane, in WWF's inaugural "Hell in a Cell" match, as well as Vince McMahon's last pay-per-view appearance as the WWF's lead commentator.

WWE Badd Blood: In Your House Reviews

  • Brutal Main Event!

In Your House:Bad Blood was an awesome event from a time when the WWF was at it's best. The matches were great throughout particularly the main event.
The main event pitted Shawn Michaels VS The Undertaker in a Hell in a Cell match. The rules were quite simple-anything goes and the wrestler literally had to put his opponent down for the count. The match was quite shocking at the time. Obviously, since this match took place there have been equally shocking matches but back in October 1997 this was big stuff. Michaels and Undertaker hammered into each other and did not let up...plus we got to see the debut of Kane, a wrestler who five years later retains his mystique.
The rest of the matches were brilliant as well particularly one match that pitted the late British Bulldog and Bret Hart against the big but agile Vader and the masked Patriot.
Getting back to the main event, I believe few wrestling main events have topped this match since it was broadcast.

Aww, I don't even know where to begin here! The entire event is based around the Hell In A Cell match with Michaels and the 'Taker... and rightly so. The whole match was a hunter/hunted-affair with UT at his most dominant since 1991. Shawn got his kicks in though, but when he took out his frustrations on a cameraman, all hell broke loose as the pair went outside, up & over the menacing cell. On a related note, I hope to god those Spanish Announcers are insured, Aye Caramba!!! Not even the appearance of a MYSTERY GUEST was enough to put a damper on this excellent piece of storytelling and brutality. Buy this tape just for that ONE match, it's worth the money!!
  • Excellent Main event, but rest...

    1. Kama/Rocky Maivia/D Lo Brown Vs. Legion of Doom - Handicap match and even Faarooq have to help his team. 6.5/10
    2. Tarantula/Mosaic Vs. Max Mini/Nova - I'm sorry but I really don't like this masked Dwarfs's wrestling. It reminds me kids that hurts each other. 2nd team won. 5/10
    3. WWF World Tag Team Title Match: The Godwinns Vs. Champs-The Headbangers - That was again, like on One night only one no-special tag action. New Champs 6/10
    4. WWF Intercontinental Title Match: Faarooq Vs. Owen Hart - Owen became new champ, Stone Cold hit Faarooq with the belt. 6.5/10
    5. Los Boricuas Vs. Disciples of Apocalypse - Average tag team action with nice finishing Crush's backbreaker. 6/10
    6. Flag Match: Vader/The Patriot Vs. Bret Hart/The British Bulldog 7/10
    7. Hell in the Cell: The Undertaker Vs. Shawn Michaels - First appearance of Kane, who helped Michaels to won! Hell match was fine. Taker totally destroy Shawn. 9/10

A shocking tragedy just hours before this event rendered most of the performances abysmal, but Shawn Michaels, not to be deterred, went out and put on an awesome match with the Undertaker to give the fans something positive to take home on the night. The tragedy in question was the shock death of Brian Pillman earlier in the day.
The Night started off with the Nation of Domination (Rocky Maivia, Kama Mustafa and D Lo Brown) defeated the Legion of Doom (Hawk and Animal) in a handicap match. The Nation were never a group to like a fair fight.
Next it was time for some midget tag team wrestling, and I mean midgets folks, not Rey Mysterio taking on Tajiri. The team of Max Mini and Nova defeated Tarantula and Mosaic in a short match, that still seemed rather repetitive. Midget matches nearly always consist of watching guys do the same few moves over and over again very quickly.
Next saw the Godwinns (Henry and Phoneas) defeat the Headbanger (Thrasher and Mosh) to win the tag team championship. And so ended the Headbanger only tag team title run in the WWE.
Next we saw Jim Ross honour some legends of St Louis wrestling. Poor timing given the events leading up to the night and it understandably fell a little flat, though the Funks, Harley Race and Lou Thesz are certainly worth honouring.
Next match saw Owen Hart defeat NOD leader Farooq to win the Intercontinental Championship. Steve Austin had defeated Hart to win the title at Summerslam, but Austin had been forced to vacate it due to having his neck broken on a botched pile driver during the match. Owen won it back so he could lose it to Austin again when he returned.
Next match saw bikie group Disciples of the Apocalypse (Crush, Chainz, Skull and 8-ball) defeat Los Boricuas (Savio Vega, Jesus Costillo, Jose Estrada and Miguel Perez Jr) in a continuation of their rivalry to decide who the number four stable in the WWE was.
Next saw WWE Champion Bret Hart and his brother in law the British Bulldog defeat Vader and the Patriot in one of the longest Flag matches I've ever seen. Pillman had been in the Hart foundation, Patriot was only in his second PPV and Vader was past his best so this was not a great match.
Then came the main event, the WWE's first ever Hell in a Cell match with The Undertaker seeking revenge on Shawn Michaels in a No.1 contender match. Michaels had cost Undertaker the title at Summerslam, hitting him with a steel chair, and they'd fought to a no contest at the previous PPV. Here they had one of the best matches ever to happen in the WWE, which was eventually decided by the first ever appearance of the Undertaker's younger brother Kane. Kane tombstone Taker and left him in the middle of the ring for Michaels to get the pin. Kane walked off with the Undertaker's former manager Paul Bearer, celebrating his handiwork and Shawn Michaels, flanked by his Degeneration X buddies Triple H and Chyna was headed to Survivor Series at Montreal to take on Bret Hart for the title in what would prove to be an infamous match.
As I said at the start, the Pillman tragedy really hurt this show, and also put into context exactly where wrestling should rate in life. This night was a continuation of wrestling fading from being a pleasant diversion to something far less innocent. A month later the last vestiges of innocence would be lost forever as the so called fourth wall was broken down completely, never to fully return.
